A little over two weeks ago, my younger sister, Shel, came to visit us. She needed to get away from L.A. and we were extremely happy to see her! We had so much fun.
While the kids were at school we talked, laughed, watched funny you tubes, ran errands. I attempted to go running with her. We ate tons of yummy food. We watched movies. We had phosphates. We hiked Table Rock. That day Jared and Malia didn't have school, but Makayla did. It was so cute to hear them greet the other hikers with, "Top of the morning to you." It was Shel's idea. Everyone they so greeted smiled, and told them good morning.
Friday none of the kids had school. We headed to see some of the waterfalls along the North Umpqua River. Makayla had a birthday party in the late afternoon, so we kept it to four waterfalls. That was Shel's favorite thing we did. I'm so glad we listened to Jason's suggestion that she visit us when she did so we'd have time to go see the falls.
Saturday we had soccer games all day. Makayla only got to play the first half of her game. She had a performance with the North Middle School band to play the national anthem for a band competition at Grants Pass High School.
Derek was constantly hugging and kissing her. He said, "Auntie Shel, you're prettier than my mommy." She told him no, but I've thought so since we were little, and I told him it's okay to think that. He kept telling her he loves her. I think she really needed that. He keeps asking when she'll come back and see us.
Early Sunday morning (the 14th) I drove her to the airport.
Sisters really are special. I miss her, but I'm glad we'll get to see her for Thanksgiving.
