A whole new world...

Jared liked Derek's birthday batman shirt too. He asked for one to wear on his first day of school! 2nd grade. The teacher he originally was going to have moved to Portland when her husband got a new job. He found out about a week before school started that he was getting a new teacher. He likes Mrs. Morton very well!

Today Derek finally had his first day of kindergarten! He has been waiting anxiously for so long. I am very happy that he has Jared's former teacher, Mrs. Thompson. He LOVED his first day, and is sad he has to wait until Tuesday to go back!
I'm embarrassed to admit I almost teared up as I drove away from the school this morning.  My last little buddy is beginning his adventure into the public school realm. I'm entering into a whole new world 2-3 times a week for 6 hours...It's very exciting, but a little sad. Such a familiar stage of my life is ending...but it's exciting that a whole new stage is beginning, full of lots of possibilities!

Malia is in fifth grade. She is very glad that her good friend, Coreen is in her class this year.  Malia's 4th grade teacher, Mr. Stutzman moved up to 5th grade, and that is who she was hoping to have. She is liking being in Mrs. Crowson's class.
She is sad about getting new wires for her braces yesterday, ouch.
Next week she'll be starting piano lessons. She informed us a few weeks ago that she did not want to keep playing the violin, or play any instruments that were offered at Lincoln. She told us she's been wanting to play piano for a really long time.

Makayla is in 8th grade this year.  On Labor Day we were invited to a friends' house to swim in their newly finished pool. It was really fun. She let Grace's mom, Joanna, take a picture. :) Joanna then tagged me on FB. :) I'm glad Makayla has a friend like Grace, and I have a friend like Joanna. :)

Ready or not, fall activites are in full swing here! We had our first soccer games last Saturday. Malia moved up to the next age bracket. She is now in U-12 (under 12 years). The games are longer, the field is bigger, and now she is one of the younger players. She gets to be one of the team captains Saturday. Pretty neat.
Derek is playing kindersoccer. He is very excited to take the field. Derek's coach is also Makayla's Advanced Language Arts teacher, and the daughter of her and Malia's former 1st grade teacher.  Kinda funny how that happens now that we've lived in GP for 10 years!
Makayla's age group will be doing something different this season. They didn't have as many kids sign up this season, so 2 of her 8 games will be played against U-14 boys! It'll be interesting to see.
Time sure flies when you're raising four kids! :)

Loved reading all about the kids and the new school year. Love them all and missing them so so much! Welcome to a new stage of life Suzy! It will be equally busy but just in different ways! Enjoy the journey because pretty soon you will be in another stage! :).
