Makayla has been making fans like crazy lately.
My "balancing surfers". Jared climbs on the countertop. Usually he squats, his feet on the edge and bum hanging over, while he fills his cup with water. I tell him I'm worried that he'll fall and he tells me, "I won't fall, I'm a balancing surfer!"
Malia's Mother's Day surprise
I can't get over the difference between the two boys' coloring!
Derek has been saying so many new words! It's bittersweet to see our littlest guy grow so quickly!
In soccer news I'm kicking myself. Yesterday I thought I should bring the video camera to Makayla's game. I usually end up being a jungle gym, so I didn't. What a mistake! It was a really intensely exciting game! The two teams were very well matched. The final score 3-2.
Makayla scored all three goals! One she shot from the right side and blasted it into the top left corner of the goal, way over the goalie's head. On her drive to the goal she had some pretty sweet footwork too! (This was in the second half after the other team scored their first goal. Prior to them scoring she had stopped several goals. The goal they got was a really tough shot to block.)
Her second goal came as a result of the other team having a hand ball penalty. She got to kick it. It was seriously like something you see staged in a soccer movie! She chipped it way over everyone's head, and again, into the top of the goal, way over the goalie's head too! She said she thought she was going to completely kick it over the goal. The third goal, was crazy too. This time she drove in from the left side. She kicked it and it landed right in the goalie's arms. But the way she caught it, her arms were palms up and her arms were at right angles, and some how it bounced out of her arms and landed in the goal!
I'm just so happy for their team. Morale has been so low lately. Now they're 2 wins, 1 tie, and 3 losses, with 1 game left this season. They only have 10 girls on their team compared to the others' 12-14 girls. At game time they usually have 0-1 sub compared to the other teams' 2-4 subs. Most of the girls on the team recently moved up from U-8, so Makayla is the most "seasoned" player.
Yesterday was really hot too. Their game was in the afternoon.
Recently they also got nicknames. Makayla's is flower girl, because one of her favorite hair ties to wear has a white flower on it.
Malia had yesterday off.
It's hard to believe it's almost Makayla's birthday, the school year's almost over, and the year is as far gone as it is!
