I know blogs usually show the most recent happenings first, and the less recent happenings further down the blog, but for now, I've got some catching up to do! :)
Christmas Eve brought two surprise visitors to our house! The first was a sister from our ward. It was a bittersweet visit. Her husband was in the hospital. The doctors said he didn't have much time left. Not feeling much in the Christmas mood, she took down all of her Christmas decorations. She wanted to pare down what she had, but didn't want to donate these treasures to a charity. Instead, she kindly thought of our family. One of the items she brought was a nativity that is very cute and kid friendly. We instantly fell in love with it. I'm so excited to use this for years to come. Our first nativity set I got as a birthday present. I was so excited to get one. It was what I would have picked for myself. Makayla was about 3 at the time. About 2 seconds after I opened it, and was admiring a figurine, she hopped up on the bed asked to see it, and promptly (and by accident) dropped it on the hardwood floor. Joseph now had a crack running along the hem of his mantle. Despite my attempts to keep it safe, my darling nativity has had a few unplanned alterations over the years. Now, perhaps there's hope for it's future! (At least now, I can remember the first incident with a smile and chuckle :) )
The second surprise visitor came in the evening. We had just finished our Christmas Eve program and were getting ready to frost Santa's cookies, then let the kids start their visions of sugarplums, when we got a knock on our door! Santa took some time for our family! Afterwards, Makayla said, "I think that was the real Santa! He took my letter!" :)
One of the kids favorite activities was delivering goodies. Each wanted to be the one to take the treats to the door. They especially thrilled when it was their turn to leave the goodies on the doorstep, ring the bell, and run away! Makayla also enjoyed helping us make the goodies, especially the little mice.
