Open House

Yesterday after school Makayla was one of the 5th graders that helped Mr. VanDelden (the P.E. teacher) with after school soccer for the 1st and 2nd graders. Malia waited for her, and the two walked home together afterward. When they got home and I asked how it went, I couldn't help but smile.

"It was so frustrating! Those kids didn't listen worth a darn!" (or something to that effect) :) Hmmm, that DOES sound frustrating, to not be listenened to... :)

Last night was Back to School night. Makayla continually corrected Jason and I, "You mean, Open House." :)

Makayla has entered a phase, where she sometimes gets annoyed or just doesn't want one taken of her when I ask if she wants me to take a picture. I remember now, that when I was 10, I didn't want to have my picture taken so much either. I think I usually didn't like the way I looked in pictures at the time. If I didn't know my picture was being taken, and I saw it after it was developed, for some reason I was fine with that. (SO weird, huh?) But now, as I look back, because I'm forgetting things, I wish I would have willingly been in more pictures with my family at that stage of my life, so that I can enjoy them and remember those times better now!

Well, and the funny thing is, when I'm blogging or putting pictures up on facebook, she asks why there aren't more pictures with her in them. (Recently when I was visiting my parents and looking through photo albums I pondered why there were hardly any pictures with me in them around 5th grade. Then it dawned on me, and I was so annoyed with myself! I wonder if with Makayla, it's the same type of phase that I went through?) Perhaps I'll just take them without her knowing. Is that a bad idea? What do you think?

Grandma NEEDS pictures of Makayla!! I always think she looks beautiful - too grown-up-but beautiful! I have to look at the blogs every day to see my cute kids! If there are no Makayla pictures I will just be so sad! :( I laughed at Malia's account of her summer vacation - of all the fun things she did this summer - the WASPS!! I told that was going to be something to remember for a LONG time!!

I agree... she is getting so grown up. But I think she always looks beautiful in pictures and in person. Keep telling her that every day! These next few years are pretty rough on a girl's self esteem.

Jacob is the same way about pictures! If he agrees to have one taken, he makes a funny face or something. I keep telling him that someday he will regret not cooperating when I pull the camera out. That usually gets me at least one decent shot. Good luck! She is beautiful as are all your kids!

I agree with Katie. That's a rough time and I remember doing the same thing. She is a beauty though and we love to see pictures of her!
